topDo you make circular arches?
Yes, we make all our arches in Rub-R-Wood© for ease in fitting on the job site. Accurate measurements should be given to ensure a close fit. Most mouldings can be bent in either direction to give a final exact fit.

topHow can we find help in designing a moulding system?
Vintage offers complete assistance in recommending a moulding system for your new home or place of business. We have worked with home owners, architects and interior designers to ensure that the final system is in good taste, within budget and produces the maximum effect for its price category.

topWhat are your mouldings made of?
Vintage makes mouldings from various materials depending on its use. All linear mouldings are available in primed MDF for painting to the owner's preference. The same profiles are in Rub-R-Wood© for areas where it is convenient to bend a moulding around a curved wall, arched door or window. Some of our decorative accessories are made from lightweight and durable polymers

topWhat is MDF?
MDF is a wood product made from wood pulp. This results in a very dimensionally stable material that has no pitch pockets, sap streaks, grain tear out or knots. This makes an ideal surface for painting.

topAre your mouldings primed?
Yes. Vintage uses a two coat, double sanded process with an oven baked primer that results in a very hard surface. The second sanding allows the installer to immediately paint without having to pre-sand.

topHow do I measure for arches?
If you need circular or elliptical arches, request an arch order form (or download the printable version). It will contain all information for measuring. Basically we need the width and the height of the actual arch you want made. We also need to know if it is a circular arch, an elliptical arch, or a chord (part of a circle but less than half)

topWhat is MasterPlaster©?
Vintage Mouldings has introduced a line of reproduction embossed plaster mouldings. However, we all know how heavy and fragile plaster can be so Vintage has solved both problems. MasterPlaster© mouldings are authentic reproductions of age old embossed mouldings but with a major difference: they are made from a polymer that is both lightweight and durable. Being an authentic reproduction, any surface irregularities reflect the skill and individuality of the craftsman who toiled long hours to produce an architectural ornament that would bring a feeling of ambience and well being to any decor. We hope the ease of installing these products will allow you to enjoy many fine hours of relaxation.

topWhat is PolyPlaster©?
PolyPlaster© mouldings are made from a high density foam, injected under five tons of pressure to produce a very hard and durable product. A primer is chemically bonded to the product during the casting process.

Many of the PolyPlaster© and MasterPlaster© items are interchangeable depending on the use and preference of the customer. PolyPlaster© offers an extremely lightweight product for installing in high or hard to work areas where a heavy product would require additional manpower or equipment.

topWhat is Rub-R-Wood©?
Rub-R-Wood© is the answer for installing mouldings around circular or elliptical windows. It also eliminates having to saw kerf, bend, and fill a solid moulding in order to bend it around a curved wall, this reduces cost and installation time. All our Rub-R-Wood© mouldings are available on a special order basis with most taking less than 10 working days to complete.

topWhy do some profiles appear in more than one place in your catalogue?
Some of our profiles can be used for more than one purpose. We will show the moulding for each application so that you can decide the most desirable method for you.

topCan a homeowner install PolyPlaster© without having to hire a contractor?
Since the PolyPlaster© can be cut, nailed, glued and screwed the same as wood; anyone familiar with wood installation can install PolyPlaster© mouldings.

topCan the MasterPlaster©, PolyPlaster© and Rub-R-Wood© be used outside?
Yes, only MDF mouldings are intended for interior use.

topWhat adhesive for the MasterPlaster©, PolyPlaster© and Rub-R-Wood© should I use?
Use Bull Dog PL Premium polyurethane adhesive or a fast acting epoxy. PL Premium will stick to almost anything, but in a case where it doesn't; testing will have to be done to determine an acceptable alternative that will adhere to both surfaces. Use the same adhesive when joining several pieces.

topShould I use screws for reinforcement in the installation of PolyPlaster© products?
Use trim head drywall screws or galvanized nails. Screw will self-countersink.

topWhat filler is recommended?
Fill all holes with any exterior putty or fast drying automotive body fill and sand flush.

topWhat paint should I use on the PolyPlaster© or MDF?
Any good quality oil or latex paint.

topAre the cast products fire rated?
No. Polyurethane may burn when exposed to flame. It is the purchasers' responsibility to ensure that products conform to local building codes.

topWill polyurethane products shrink or expand with changes in temperature or humidity?
Yes, polyurethane will shrink and expand slightly. We recommend that lengths of moulding be cut 1/16" to 1/8" longer and that they be sprung into place during installation.

topWhat is the diameter of the centre of the ceiling medallion?
All ceiling medallions have a centre of 3 ¾" in diameter. This accommodates the use of a standard 4" diameter electrical box.

topIs Rub-R-Wood© temperature sensitive?
Rub-R-Wood© is a polyester resin based product and is less flexible when stored at temperatures below 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Improper flexing of the material at or below 55 may cause breakage. Before installing allow the moulding to reach room temperature between 60-90 degrees F.

topCan Rub-R-Wood© be cut, sanded and installed like MDF mouldings?
Yes! Rub-R-Wood© can be sanded and cut. It can be installed with an air gun or be predrilled and nailed. Nails should be kept 6" apart and 3/8" from any edge.

topDo you sell outside your local area?
Yes, we have been selling internationally since doing a 42 home development in Japan in 1994

topWhy is there such a large price difference between MDF and Rub-R-Wood©?
MDF is run on production line for high efficiency. Rub-R-Wood© is made to order for each customer. Cost of materials is another major factor.

topHow do I arrange shipping for an international shipment (outside Canada)?
Vintage arranges for all orders that are not picked up. In fact on house lot orders, in many cases, Vintage will pay the freight. On smaller orders there may be a small charge.

topDo you ship to remote areas?
Yes we can ship anywhere there is a commercial freight carrier available. We will ship to the nearest terminal if there are no carriers in your area. We have worked with customers who had the final transportation of their mouldings done by fishing boat and even a farm tractor to a secluded hide away.

topHow are the mouldings shipped?
The mouldings are all pre-packed in plastic in standard packing units. Each bundle is numbered and on the packing slip the contents of each bundle is listed.

topDo I have to be at the job site when the mouldings arrive?
It is not necessary for the owner to be present when the mouldings arrive. However, if you can't be there then an adult that you trust should be there to check the bundles and confirm the quantity. The freight company will want you to sign their waybill indicating that the order was received in satisfactory condition.

topWhat do I do if I receive a damaged bundle?
Vintage only uses well established bonded carriers who have a long record of safe delivery. However, accidents do occur. If you receive a damaged shipment, make a list of the bundle numbers on the freight company's waybill. You have the right to do this and transport drivers will not mind you doing so. Then fax a copy to Vintage Mouldings. We will confirm the damaged bundles and immediately prepare a replacement shipment. The replacement shipment will be sent to you at no charge and a claim will be submitted by Vintage to recover the cost. But be sure to put complete information on the waybill the driver asks you to sign. Once you have signed it, and the driver has left, the freight company will not reimburse Vintage for any damages noticed at a later date.
